Strength

As I sit here and think about all of the things that have gone on over the last 3 months it seems sureal. It all started as a minor surgery that would have had my favorite uncle (who by the way is only 6yrs older than me and more like a brother than an uncle) laid up for about 3 days and then he would be on his way to healing and within a few weeks back to work as usual.

Well needless to say that didn't happen. His minor surgery turned into Sepsis, MRSA/VRE, and Toxic Shock. It has been a long road from where he was to where he is for not only him but those of us who love him dearly. I am so thankful for not only the amazing medical care he got at the University of Utah Hospital in SLC, UT but for the fact that he is here at all (I love you Uncle!)

On the more personal side of the last three months... I missed the high school reunion I had been so excited to attend for the entire year prior to the event, I missed the Oyster Ridge Music Festival, and I missed work (after I used all of my vacation & personal time luckily they allowed me to work remotely for awhile.) With this said let me also say that I wouldn't have traded one second of holding my uncle's hand to be at any of those things.

We all have preconceived notions of what we would do and what kind of decisions we would make if we are put in the position to determine the care a family member will get. Let me just say that if there ever comes a time when you are put in the position to have to make an important life or death decision... GET INFORMED! Do not take things lightly, do research, get 2nd, 3rd, & 4th opinions, stand strong and be firm after all it is up to you to do what's best.

Ultimately it is what it is but if you make the best decision you possibly can you will have the satisfaction and relief knowing you did what you could.
